The FiRE program currently uses A Family of Faith by Sophia Institute as its curriculum. This family oriented program has everyone learning the Catechism of the Catholic Church in their homes and in Sunday classroom settings. This curriculum is a four year cycle covering one section of the Catechism each year then repeats: (I) Creed, (II) Sacraments, (III) Morality, and (IV) Prayer.
Parents, the primary educators of the faith, attend a monthly meeting equipping them to bring the teachings, saints, and prayers into the home and apply to family life.
Children are encouraged to attend weekly classes. In the classroom, catechists reinforce the monthly family message while teaching to specific grade levels. Yes, all the fun of building relationships, creating, discussing, praying, and being mentored in the faith are included so that the entire family comes home each week to add to their family discussion. Car conversations, dinner prayers, lives of the saints are just a few pieces of this wonderful family catechesis.
Sacraments, of course, are the highlight and joy of the FiRE program. Second graders are prepared to receive First Reconciliation and First Communion in late January and April. Eighth graders are prepared to receive Confirmation in late May each year. (Please note: at least two years of religious education prefaces each Sacrament.)
